Internet experts* project there were more than 300 million Internet users worldwide at the end of the year 2000, and there will be more than 700 million users worldwide at the end of 2005.

The number of Internet users will increase six-fold to 1 billion within five years, but according to Intel CEO Craig Barret in an AP report, the most important part of that growth will be business-to-business transactions.

The number of global Internet users making purchases over the web is expected to jump from about 30 million in 1998 to more than 180 million in 2003 -- totaling more than US $1 trillion in e-commerce.

Besides business-to-consumer, business-to-business is really the backbone of the world economy and that's where approximately 80 percent of this business comes from.

*The study, titled eGlobal Report, aggregates research data from hundreds of different sources, including Forrester Research, Intelliquest, Jupiter Communications, Dataquest, Datamonitor, Cyber Dialogue and IDC, as well as many international research firms.
